△ Among the many Bodhisattvas, Maitreya is the only one who will appear in the future. He is said to be currently practicing and meditating in his new world (Tosotsuten). Maitreya's Sanskrit name is "Maitreya," which translates to "one born from compassion" and is also known in China as Cishi Bodhisattva. "Maitreya" is a transliteration of the Sanskrit word meaning "friendship, fraternity, and compassion." His crossed legs, soft right hand resting gently on his cheek, smiling, compassionate face, and slouching posture are said to represent the "deep posture of a Bodhisattva who is thinking about saving people."
