The Ozu world is loved across borders and generations
This tote bag features an illustration of a film by director Yasujiro Ozu, created by artist Yu Nagaba. "Good Morning": Produced in 1959, this work depicts various families living in a residential area on the outskirts of Tokyo. An illustration exclusive to BEAMS JAPAN.
Tokyo Story: Produced in 1953, this is Yasujiro Ozu's masterpiece, a timeless masterpiece that depicts the changes in family relationships in post-war Japan through the story of an elderly couple who visit their children living in Tokyo.
"The Taste of Pacific Saury": Produced in 1962, this was Yasujiro Ozu's final work. Dealing with themes of aging and loneliness, it humorously and sensitively portrays the feelings of an elderly man who has lost his wife and his daughter who is of marriageable age.
"Red Spider Lily": Produced in 1958, this film depicts a father who is upset by his daughter's behavior after she decides on a husband without consulting him. This was Ozu's first color film, and the calming colors of the German Agfacolor film that the director favored have since become known as "Ozu's colors."
"Tokyo Twilight": Produced in 1957, this family drama is unique among Ozu's films, weaving together the overwhelming, bottomless loneliness of the characters, each carrying a wounded heart.
"Born to Be": A masterpiece from the silent film era, produced in 1932. This father-son drama is a mix of comedy and satire, with humor in the first half depicting children bossing each other around, then a serious scene in which the children scold their fathers and sarcasticly criticize the adult world.

Yasujiro Ozu
In a career spanning approximately 35 years, from the silent film era to the postwar period, Ozu was a renowned Japanese director who directed 54 films, including the classics "Late Spring," "Autumn in Wake," and "Tokyo Story," all starring Setsuko Hara. Ozu's works, which continued to capture the hearts and minds of Japanese people in their unique style, continue to inspire and move viewers to this day, as the saying goes, "What remains eternal is always new," and they continue to receive passionate support from many fans both in Japan and abroad.
